The Kapu - G10 Dagger
The Kapu - G10 Dagger is a collaboration of C Despins and Tuhon Tomas Kier of the Sayoc Kali Group.
The Kapu non-metallic knife made possible by the application of Tuhon Thomas Kiers research of the Pacific Islands warrior cultures, specifically those having no access to workable metal materials of any kind and the many implements that they devised for the purpose of combat despite this fact. "It was necessary that these implements have jagged edges or teeth. Most modern non-metallic knives take too much for granted from the modern metallic knife. An effective non-metallic knife must not only be capable of puncturing, it must also be capable of ripping muscle, veins and arteries in order to achieve optimum tissue damage and blood loss." - TTK
The application of these principals was made possible by the design craft of C Despins. "With these principals in mind we started to bounce some drawing back and forth via email. Before long the solution became self evident." - Despins "Kapu" is the traditional code of Hawaiian laws or "restrictions". This system was used in Hawaii until the early 1800s.
Kapu is loosely translated into English as "forbidden". Being it that amongst the Polynesian islands Daggers were most unique to Hawaii, Kapu was adopted as a fitting name for this uniquely foreboding design.
The Kapu - G10 Dagger is crafted from 0.20 thick G10 plate. The gloss surface of the G10 plate is hand ground to reveal the non reflective matte black core. The handles are "tool dipped" creating a a rubberized non slip grip. The Kapu does not include a sheathing system of any kind. It is able to be lashed in various configurations to various utilities such as Molle gear using (suggested) black electricians tape. Spec 9 1/4 OAL, 4 1/5 blade/handle, 1/4 "hilt" - .185 - .194 thick
