DPX HEFT - F for FIGHTING

DPX HEFT Reivew by Max Venom Product GroupBack in August I wrote of the DPX HEST 2.0 folder. Since that time DPX Gear has rolled out a line of fixed blades that represent a turn in design functionality that just got a little more hostile.

The DPX HEFT is a mission specific edged implement--Fighting. Most fighting knives will, by default, retain a certain dual functionality; they are good for tasks not exclusive to death dealing. The DPX HEFT (Hostile Environment Fighting Tool) capitalizes on this versatility where there is room to capitolize and makes no exceptions where there are none to be had. Simply put, the DPX HEFT is designed for close quarters dirty work. It is designed for people who are in the business of killing people.

Options

The DPX HEFT is available in four options, two blade lengths available in two configurations: "Assault" and "Woodsman". The blade lengths are 4' and 6 inches. Having come to know the knives, I have nicknamed them the "Fast 4" and the "Straight 6".

Haley Skimmer - Glock ON!

Glock vs 1911 - Skimmer Triger ReviewAlthough I had never considered myself a "Glock man" there was a time where a Glock Model 17 served as my primary sidearm, and I liked it. Then my relationship with the Glock, for complicated reasons, came to an end. Not long after I became a "1911 man". Yes, the "nothing but a 1911 for me" type that many of you may know, and perhaps even hate. Seasons changed and I found myself living and working in an environment where 9mm was the common currency and a 1911 was not to be had. Strange days these were, and I had no other option but to fall back on the Glock when I was lucky enough to get my hands on one and make do with whatever else when one was not.

One fine day I returned to the United States and was reunited with my coveted 1911. All was well until I came to realize that I wasn't shooting nearly as much due to the rather ridiculous rise in expense of shooting 45 caliber ammunition. I decided that I needed to reevaluate my "major caliber" stance and contemplate a firearm of the 9mm variety. I have to admit that I thought about this way too much in retrospect, because my first instinct was to go back to Glock. However, a few firearms had grown on me that offered a bit of what I liked about the 1911.

The need to Switch - ProTech USA

Pro Tech Knives - The Godfather reviewI wanted to open this post by thanking those of you who have been following my blog. I greatly appreciate each and every one of you who has subscribed to my blog, each and every one of you who has click "like" and also the many who communicate to me via email. It is due to repeated requests by readers like you that this very post is being produced.

Time and again I have been asked to review an automatic knife or "switchblade". I owe it to you to respond to these repeated requests by doing just that.

So, Let's Roll

The ominous snap of the switchblade knife strikes both fear and awe into the hearts of men. Films such as Rebel Without a Cause, West Side Story, China Town and others have solidified a rather sinister view of the switchblade in American culture. Films such as these have made it the seeming weapon of choice of the “roughian” and the villain. Fictional cinematic depictions did much injustice to this manner of knife. But let's fast forward from 1955, 1961 or 1974 for that matter, today’s automatic knives have evolved much.

NEW - Fox Knives Karambit

Fox Knives Karambit ReviewIt is not every day that I get excited about a new karambit. It has been years to honest. As a Karambit designer many take me for a Karambit enthusiast. I cannot say that I am, but rather that at one point or another I was. However, I am glad to say that my Karambit enthusiasm has recently been rekindled!

Years ago

There was a time when I owned a variety of Karambits, some fixed Blades and some folders. Each in its own way had its benefits and each its own “problems” these “problems” are however the sort of thing inherent to a design so specific in its particular ergonomic features. The problem for me was that nothing seemed to have just the right combination of fit, form and function. I began a cycle of purchases replacing the old with something new. Relentlessly, I kept buying and the process continued for a number of years until one day I simply I grew tired of it.

Vortex Optics - Sparc to Strikefire

Vortex Strikefire ReviewSome time ago I had purchased the Vortex Strikefire. Recently, for whatever reason, I scanned through a few threads to see what others had to say about it. What I have read thus far has the words "budget red dot" ringing in my ears. I have some amount of difficulty with this classification based upon my personal experience.

The Strikefire is in fact incredibly affordable. However, the way that I see it, the difference between what I would call a "budget red dot" and the "incredibly affordable" Vortex Strikefire is miles wide!

Perhaps the primary difference I have found between me and others who have purchased the Strikefire is my familiarity with the Vortex brand. I was originally made familiar with Vortex through a neighbor and family friend who had worked for years as a hunting guide in Alaska. I do not believe that he owned a single thing that was not top quality or could not be thoroughly depended upon for a lifetimes use. He did own, and held in very high regard, a set of Vortex brand binoculars.

My entry into the Vortex brand started with the acquisition of the 30mm Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 Mil-Dot, as seen reviewed in a previous Max Venom post (http://www.maxvenom.com/rifleman_vortex_optics_review). I was thoroughly pleased with this purchase!
